Stop the Bleed
Learn Basic Medical Skills and Training
Service Description
This class is for non-medically trained individuals who want to learn how to deal with emergency medical situations in an increasingly dangerous world. The class covers the basics of trauma management, treatment until EMS arrives, and what to do if EMS is delayed. It is to help with "bridging-the-gap" between an incident and the EMS arriving; and to prepare civilians to respond during to active-threat incidents and to casualties involving major hemorrhage or penetrating injury to chest or abdomen. We will discuss the mindset needed during crisis, how to assess an injury, how to apply a tourniquet, "stop the bleed", and practice with multiple scenarios in which the students will face several incidents where they will assess and treat one or more simulated patients. The training will remain within the legal boundaries of treatments a non-medically trained individual in Oregon is permitted to perform in an emergency. *This Class Has No Prerequisites
